Replacing Your A/C? 3 Questions to Ask Before Buying

Purchasing a new air conditioner for your South Florida home is a significant investment (particularly during the hot summer months) and a long-term purchase that you and your family will be relying on for years. Your investment should last you between 12-15 years if maintained properly. Before you swipe your credit card make sure that you have the best answers to these questions or contact Dignified Air Services to help you through the process, from research to installation.

1. Is the New System Energy-Efficient?

As you start shopping around make sure that the units you are looking at have the Energy Star Label this is an important starting point in the buying process. Systems with the label either meet or exceed the minimum standards set by the EPA (Environment Protection Agency). These units will also have a higher SEER rating which identifies units that cool most efficiently. South Florida residents should be looking at systems with SEER 16 rating or higher.

2. Which type of air Conditioning System is Best for me?

This purchase should take a few things into consideration such as structure and size of your home whether your current ducts can be used with a new system. A full-service HVAC company such as Dignified Air Services should conduct a thorough investigation of your home to determine what units they recommend. The service company should also include information on additional work that should be done before or while the unit is being replaced, for example, ducts, thermostat replacement, and air quality assessments.

3. What is the Warranty Offered?

The warranty information should be reviewed at length. You will want to know what is covered, what isn’t, when it expires and if you can purchase an extended warranty. The company that installs your unit should also have a clear idea on these facts. You don’t want any of the preventative maintenance or service work they do to void the warranty. Most licensed and insured professionals will have a clear grasp of this information, but you will want to ask them to review it with you.

These questions are just a starting point for you when it comes time to make the purchase. It can be overwhelming, but our goal at Dignified Air Services is to assist you with this every step of the way with expertise, professionalism, and quality customer experience. South Florida is an area where you definitely don’t want your A/C purchase to be a mistake or based on bad info. If you have any questions, give us a call–we are happy to be of service.
